Orthodox priest compares extreme Zionist rhetoric to Nazi racism

What the video says

The speaker criticizes the view he attributes to some Jews that they may destroy the Palestinian population as their ancestors once destroyed local pagans. He calls this a stretch and says they do not have the right to act toward Palestinians as Joshua once acted toward the seven ancient tribes. He argues this is an attempt to apply ancient wartime rules, wiping out everyone without pity, in a modern era.

The speaker compares this mindset to Nazi racism, saying Hitler considered some peoples subhuman, and claims extreme Jewish nationalists similarly consider some people not human, which is why they destroy not only armies but everyone.

Key moments

  1. 0:00 The speaker says Jews consider themselves entitled to destroy people the way their ancestors destroyed local pagans, and calls this a bloody stretch that is not in the Jews' favor.
  2. 0:00 He argues they have no right to treat the Palestinian population as Joshua (Ieshua ben Nun) once treated the Amorites, Gergesenes, Perizzites, Jebusites and other tribes.
  3. 0:47 He says they apply old rules in a new era: destroy everyone, pity neither the old, nor children, nor women, leaving no trace, as in ancient wars.
  4. 1:17 He compares this to Hitler's racism, in which the white race was considered fully human and others, like Gypsies and Jews, were seen as subhuman.
  5. 1:17 He uses the example of a chicken: people do not mourn it because it is not a human and God allowed eating its meat, and says racial supremacists view other peoples this way.
  6. 1:50 He claims there are Jewish Nazis and extreme nationalists who also consider some people not human, so they destroy everyone, not just army against army.

An Orthodox priest speaks about Zionism and the war in Gaza. He criticizes a view he attributes to some Jews: that they may destroy the Palestinian population as their ancestors once destroyed local pagan tribes. He calls this reading a bloody stretch that is not in the Jews' favor.

In his words, they have no right to act toward Palestinians as Joshua (Ieshua ben Nun) once acted toward the seven ancient tribes, such as the Amorites, Gergesenes, Perizzites and Jebusites. The priest argues that they are trying to apply ancient wartime rules in a modern era: to destroy everyone without pity, neither the old nor children nor women, leaving no trace, as in the wars of antiquity.

He then compares this mindset to Nazi racism. According to him, Hitler considered the white race fully human while treating other peoples, such as Gypsies and Jews, as subhuman. To illustrate the logic of such racism, he uses the example of a chicken: people do not mourn it because it is not human and God allowed eating its meat, and racial supremacists view other peoples in the same way.

The priest states that there are Jewish Nazis and extreme Jewish nationalists who likewise consider some people not human, and that this is why they destroy not only armies but everyone, rather than fighting army against army. The post is presented with hashtags on Israel, Gaza and Orthodoxy, and the video consists of the priest's own remarks without further voices or debate shown in the summary.

Paul says he magnifies his ministry to the Gentiles so that he might somehow make his fellow Jews jealous and save some of them. If their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, their acceptance will be life from the dead. Wild branches were grafted in, but don't be arrogant toward the broken-off branches; it's not you who support the root, the root supports you. They were broken off for unbelief, you stand by faith, so don't be proud but fear, because if God didn't spare the natural branches he won't spare you either. Note both the kindness and severity of God: severity to the fallen, kindness to you if you continue in it, otherwise you'll be cut off too. And they, if they don't stay in unbelief, will be grafted back in, since God can graft them in again. If wild shoots were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated tree, how much more will the natural branches return to their own tree. A partial hardening has come on Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles comes in. As to the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but as to election they are beloved for the fathers' sake, because God's gifts and calling are irrevocable. Just as you received mercy through their disobedience, they will receive mercy through the mercy shown to you. God consigned all to disobedience so he could have mercy on all. Let it be known: WWJD? Look at the last verse to see what Jesus is going to do. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to it! How often I wanted to gather your children as a hen gathers her brood, and you were not willing!" (Matthew 23:37). Before the whole nation of Israel turns to God and confesses the Pierced One of Zechariah 12:10, where God pours out a spirit of grace and supplication so that when they look on him whom they pierced they mourn as for an only son, Israel's enemies will side with the antichrist to wipe out all of Jacob's offspring from the earth. They'll think they're doing God's work, because their hatred of the Chosen People outweighs any grasp of God's grace, as if the grace that started with Israel and spread to the world can't return to Israel, which is impossible (Jeremiah 31:35ff; Romans 11:28-29). God will make Jerusalem a cup of staggering and a heavy stone for all surrounding peoples; all who lift it will hurt themselves, and all nations of the earth will gather against it. But God will protect Jerusalem's inhabitants, so the feeblest among them will be like David and the house of David like God, like the angel of the Lord going before them. And after Israel comes to faith in the Pierced One, God's vengeance falls on Israel's enemies: "On that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against…

That's the Old Testament, don't muddy the waters

If the Jewish-written Old Testament doesn't stir water for you, the Jewish-written New Testament won't either. You have Moses and the prophets. If they don't believe Moses and the prophets, they won't believe One raised from the dead either. Notice the Jewish apostles didn't yet understand there would be a second advent, but they did understand the time would come when the Jewish people come to faith in the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, and Israel gets restored. They asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said it's not for them to know times or seasons the Father has fixed (Acts 1:6-7). He will rule the world from Jerusalem. Not Rome, not St Petersburg, not Athens. Jerusalem. His twelve Jewish apostles will rule the twelve tribes of Israel, who will head the nations. "In the new world, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who followed me will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel" (Matthew 19:28).

No doubt Israel will sign a covenant with the antichrist for a time. 3.5 years in, the antichrist turns on the Jewish people in a final attempt to kill them all. Despite her history of rebellion (prophesied already from Moses' time), at the end of this age Israel comes to her Messiah Jesus, and God forgives and restores Israel to her land during the Millennium (Zech 12). What is Isaiah 52:13 through chapter 53 but a not-yet-fulfilled prophecy of Israel's national confession?! That national confession and the future restoration of the kingdom to Israel sit right inside Yeshua's excoriation of Israel's leadership in Matthew 23:1-36. Many believers glory in that excoriation but shy away from the end-time verses about Israel's repentance. From verse 37 on, Yeshua reaffirms his undying love for the wayward nation, says her temporary rejection will scatter her through the world, and assures her a time is coming when she'll recognize him as Messiah. Matthew 23:39 says Yeshua's return depends on Israel's collective declaration, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord." It was quoted at the Triumphal Entry and will be proclaimed again at the end of the Tribulation, this time by the whole nation, and that national confession triggers his return to deliver Israel from certain destruction (see Zechariah 12:1-10, esp. v10). Does anyone really think God gave grace to all the…
