St. Justinian the Great made it a crime in his empire to be a homosexual. The penalty was death by fire. We have a lot to learn from our ancestors ways

Funny how almost all of these quotes that actually name the acts explicitly are talking about either pedophilia or prostitution! You might be onto something here. I believe in you

    • opinion#1349

"almost all" isn't good enough, sorry. They lived in an era with both pederasts and adult homosexuals. Both are sinful

    • opinion#1350

the ones that spell it out without mentioning either just mention maleness. there's no disciplinary rule for anything like a homosexual marriage. probably because that just wasn't a thing in society, no? It's no accident that early letters copying the list in 1Cor (Edit: sorry, I mixed up Barnabas and 1 Clement, it's Barn) swap arsenokoites for a word that more clearly refers to children

    • opinion#1351

yeah because why would they ever bring it up? You couldn't marry men. It didn't even exist in pagan Rome, so it was never a question that needed answering. This is pure cope, the same churches that still reject sodomy have used the same language about it for 2000 years. Males having sex with males is a sin regardless of age, which is why Paul coined a term instead of using established ones like pederastes

exactly, it wasn't a thing! so we're dealing with a new concept here that needs a new answer! ^-^

same sex marriage is beside the point. The fact that it's never shown or attested as a sacrament or civic institution anywhere in the christian world is actually even stronger proof it was never meant to exist. The answer to it used to be death, and it's a godless, blasphemous and antichrist thing that we ever repealed that law.

I disagree, I think the texts probably do condemn homosexuality but are shaped by their historical and cultural context (like with 1Cor 11, where even many conservatives read scripture that way). the question I have to ask myself is whether a homosexual marriage is more like envy, murder and deceit, or like a heterosexual marriage

    • opinion#1355

a homosexual marriage isn't a thing. It's like a square circle. Two men cannot be joined as one flesh. The church's position was always that sex between anyone other than a married man and woman is sinful. These quotes make that painfully obvious by how broadly they generalize, and the same language being used well into the middle ages proves it even more. The codified laws prove it too. Pedophilia and sodomy were treated as distinct things

tradition isn't an argument. Catholics falsely claim the Papacy is historical, Orthodox falsely claim iconodulia goes back to the apostles. and we have plenty of explicit sexism from the church fathers that modern church leaders no longer share either. interpretation has always moved with the times, most hypocritically among those who insist the faith hasn't changed even while it has

It is tragic in our time that pride flags and pornography have become to us what alcohol and tobacco were to the generations before us.

There's another quote from St John Chrysostom in Homily 4 of his Homilies on the Epistle to the Romans about how homosexuals should be driven out and stoned
