Bro, if a priest knows you are in a state of mortal sin, they are required to withhold the Eucharist. Are they not?

    • opinion#1640

yeah, I haven't taken the Eucharist in months cause I haven't been able to confess

    • opinion#1641

I pray that soon you receive an opportunity to receive the sacrament of confession.

  • opinion#1637

He knows better than that. NO ONE is to approach the eucharist if not in a state of grace.

    • opinion#1642

correct, but being a person who has a homosexual inclination but is celibate, not in a same-sex relationship and goes to confession does not preclude them from communion. The church makes a clear distinction between having an inclination towards sin and actually sinning.

    • opinion#1643

yeah that's not what's being discussed.

  • opinion#1638

Should someone who actively identifies as gay partake in the Eucharist?

    • opinion#1644

That's exactly what I was thinking too! I'm Reformed Protestant myself (PCA).

    • opinion#1645

Are they even in a state of grace?? Have they confessed? Repented?

    • opinion#1646

Not if they're still actively identifying as gay, which is what this post implies.

    • opinion#1647

Then what about someone who's divorced? Lies? Works on Saturday? Those are all the same thing.

    • opinion#1648

Let's simplify this. Should someone unrepentant of a sin receive communion? Now, we can repent and fall back into the same sins over and over while genuinely trying to stop, and that's fine. But willingly committing sins with no intent to stop? No, you should not commune.

    • opinion#1649

If they're unrepentant of their sinful lifestyle, then they shouldn't receive it either. Also, working on a Saturday? You're really equating working on a normal day with being gay?

    • opinion#1650

In the Catholic Church, yes they actually can, with the caveat that they are NOT acting on their homosexual tendencies by being in a homosexual relationship and/or having sex with a same sex partner. In other words, they must be celibate and have gone through confession before receiving communion. Simply being homosexual isn't considered a sin in and of itself. It's basically the same as being in an unmarried heterosexual relationship with sexual relations precluding you from communion. Having an inclination towards a sin is not the same as committing one.

    • opinion#1651

Actively identifying as gay means they don't "struggle" with it. If they said they struggle with same sex attraction and understand it comes from sinful inclination, that's different, and they wouldn't identify as homosexual but simply as Christians who struggle with a particular sin. The video in the post shows they are active in their homosexuality. They should be denied the sacrament. This is fencing the table.

  • opinion#1634

Well yeah, if you're living in open and unrepentant sin, you're not supposed to be given communion. I don't get how this is some shocking revelation.

    • opinion#1652

It's because they don't actually believe in the religion. They've adopted it as an aesthetic or career choice.

  • opinion#1639

RCs need more copium to defend this one

    • opinion#1653

No Catholic is coping over this one. We Catholics don't agree with "father" James Martin's statements.

    • opinion#1654

It's not my job to defend Fr Martin. Honestly, sometimes he really undermines the Catholic Faith in my opinion.

    • opinion#1655

What exactly are we supposed to defend? It's one person out of over a billion. Martin does not represent the Church's stance as a whole, and the post makes that clear when Martin says certain parts of the Church treat LGBTQ people like dirt. We must have compassion for all people but we do not condone the behavior, it's very simple. Seems like you and the poster are severely biased and just want any excuse to throw dirt at the Catholic Church, meanwhile your patriarchs are actively trying to establish full communion.

    • opinion#1656

Nobody said that's what they formally teach. But it's hard to claim your church isn't littered with LGBT clergy or organizations that support homosexuality. There's no clear condemnation or correction from the Vatican toward those jurisdictions that support this stuff.

  • opinion#1632

I'm same sex attracted and I LOVE the Catholic Church because I follow Christ, not the world. πŸ™βœοΈβ€οΈβ€πŸ”₯ I go to confession and receive communion.

  • opinion#1630

I mean yeah, I would expect someone living that way of life and constantly in a non repentant way should not be allowed communion, that doesn't mean you should treat them like dirt or as lower. They should be helped in a loving manner but without affirming their sin.

  • opinion#1633

Several issues with this post. I'm not biased, in fact I like your posts from time to time, but this ignores the obvious just to throw dirt at the Catholic Church. First, Martin points out that many in the Church treat LGBTQ people like dirt. I wouldn't condone treating anyone horribly, but that establishes that Martin's view is not the widespread view in the Church. All are welcome and encouraged to receive grace as long as they deny themselves, live the Christian life and stop the lifestyle. That applies not just to the LGBTQ community but to all sinners. Second, the church in its official teaching does not condone such behavior. Lastly, there have always been wolves in sheep's clothing like Arius, Nestorius etc. Scripture is clear this happens to show who among us is approved. Your arguments are disingenuous, low tier and very misleading. We already know what you'll do when the patriarchs re establish full communion, you'll call them heretics. You submit to your own understanding and authority and that is very clear.

  • opinion#1629

Anyone still in a state of sin cannot go to communion. They need to go to confession first. Being homosexual is not a sin. Having sex outside of marriage is. So gay couples who have sex are not eligible for communion. This priest is talking nonsense.

  • opinion#1631

It's actually treating them like dirt to give them communion in the state they're in. When I was RC I went to a parish once where a man married to another man was allowed to be an extraordinary minister. How? Why? lol

I'm not Catholic but we partake of the Lord's Supper in remembrance of Jesus. So what does the Bible say? 1 Corinthians 11:27-29: whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
