Saint Tikhon the Athonite on humility and the Jesus Prayer
Saint Tikhon the Athonite (1884-1968) was a Russian ascetic who lived on Mount Athos and became the spiritual father of Saint Paisios. He dedicated his life to humility, repentance, and unceasing prayer. The post presents four sayings attributed to him. He taught that three prostrations offered with humility are better than a thousand prostrations made with arrogance.
He declared that only humility will save us. He called the Jesus Prayer, "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon me!", the pure wheat. He also urged death to the world.
