Four saints on gratitude, trust, and thanksgiving
The author shares a series of quotations from four Orthodox saints on the themes of gratitude, trust in God, and thanksgiving in all circumstances. The first line reads: "Thank God for what He has given, trust Him with what He has withheld. Glory to God for all things." This is followed by a saying of St Paisios the Athonite: "If a person entrusts himself to God, then God will not abandon him."
St Dorotheos of Gaza adds: "When He does not grant him what he needs, He makes him compensate for the thing he needs through the working of the mind and teaches him patience." St Anthony the Great advises: "When you sit down to eat, pray. When you eat bread, do so thanking Him for being so generous to you."
St John Chrysostom concludes: "Let us give thanks for everything, for whatever happens, this is thanksgiving." The post presents these sayings without additional commentary.
