Called an atheist for rejecting the rapture by a Catholic

The person who called me an atheist turned out to be Catholic, which caught me off guard, I would have expected that from a Baptist, Seventh-day Adventist, or Jehovah's Witness. I walked him through the history of the Millerites and the Great Disappointment of 1844, explaining that the rapture teaching has no roots in historic Christianity and only appeared in the 1800s. I told him I attend only Episcopal or Orthodox churches.

He had never heard of the Episcopal Church and dismissed the Orthodox Church as a group for extremists.

Main points

  • A Catholic called the author an atheist for not believing in the rapture
  • The author expected such a claim from certain Protestant groups instead
  • The author explained the Millerite origin and 1844 Great Disappointment
  • The author attends Episcopal or Orthodox churches
  • The Catholic person didn't know the Episcopal Church and called Orthodoxy extremist
