Interactive map of 217 Orthodox parishes in Great Britain and Ireland

Hello, brothers and sisters! I want to share a project I've been working on, a comprehensive directory of Eastern Orthodox parishes across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. So far, 217 individual parishes are listed, covering every canonical jurisdiction.

Honestly this could or even should be its own app. One small problem though: the map legend doesn't say which colour stands for which jurisdiction. Read the discussion

My best guess: Red is Russian, yellow Romanian, grey Serbian, blue Greek, purple Bulgarian, white Georgian, green North Macedonian, and orange Moldovan? Not sure though whether orange means it ultimately falls under Russian or Romanian in the hierarchy.

Orange is Moldovan, used only for the one Moldovan parish in London, which is under the Moscow Patriarchate's Moldovan Orthodox Church (Metropolis of Chișinău and All Moldova) if I remember right. I think I'll give Antiochian and ROCOR parishes their own colours - grouping them with EP and Moscow respectively was a bit short-sighted of me!

Thanks, that's a fair point. I had grouped them by tradition rather than jurisdiction, but jurisdiction is probably the more useful way to do it!

Agreed, and it's also easier to get accurate data that way. When adding a parish you always know its jurisdiction, but not always its liturgical tradition. It's pretty common for one jurisdiction to have some parishes following a different tradition. You can be under the Ecumenical Patriarchate and use Russian rubrics, or the other way round.

Hi there, amazing work! I noticed a few parishes around Edmonton are missing, hope this helps. St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at the corner of Logan Rd and Town Rd, N9. The Greek Orthodox community of St Barnabas, with the Cathedral of the Dormition (St Mary's) and the church in Wood Green, Trinity Rd, N22. St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church on Wightman Rd, Harringay Ladder, N8. St Katharine's Greek Orthodox Church on Friern Barnet Lane, N20. St Botolph's Antiochian Orthodox Church on Oakleigh Rd North, N20. And the Orthodox Community of St Cedd, Southgate, meeting at Southgate Methodist Church on The Bourne, N14.

Thanks a lot! They've all been added now.

Hi my friend and God bless. I saw the comment above about building an app around this. I'm a software engineer and would really love to build this into something. I've actually been searching for an Orthodox church near me lately, so this would be a huge help!

Send me your criteria and whatever else you have in mind and I'll see what I can do.
