Catechumen shares Orthodox journey, fitness background, and business experience

Please let everyone know.

I am Tim, a catechumen in the Greek Orthodox Church, and I share everything I am learning and every obstacle I face on the way to Orthodoxy. I have also spent nearly twenty years in fitness, some of it at a competitive level, and I have built a successful business of my own.

Follow along so we can grow together.

Thank you. All praise to the Lord. Amen.

Still a Catechumen, but: I'm becoming Orthodox because it's the original, unchanged Church, the one that gathered the Bible and still prays it as it was first written, and because its view of faith as disciplined spiritual struggle fought alongside brothers matches how I already want to live.

I wanted "the one true Church" and figured it came down to Catholic or Orthodox. Then Catholics started entertaining the idea of "Adapting", "Revising" and "Negotiating" scripture.

There's a recent source out there worth checking before any Catholics start grabbing the pitchforks.

The saints. I don't feel alone in the church.

Ex evangelical here. I begged God for the truth and he led me to Orthodoxy.

Cradle Catholic. I studied history, spent time in Bible studies with different groups, then walked into an Orthodox Church and felt home. Started going, became a Catechumen, now I'm an Orthodox Christian and try to be part of altar service as much as I can.

It's the original and it has conviction, unlike Protestantism.

I needed answers to questions I'd always had, and I needed a faith that was tangible, one that brings repentance and discipline.

Because it preserved the traditions of the apostles and early christians from the first centuries very well. Also, Jesus is central and most worshiped in the Orthodox Church.

I got tired of Christians celebrating instead of worshiping, and I also like the vibe of orthodoxy.

Long story, so short version: raised Baptist but it always felt empty. I was a huge history nerd, especially roman, and reading about the ancient church resonated with me. At 16 I hit a spiritual low point. After about a year of research I started identifying as orthodox at 17. I'm 18 now, far from perfect, but I feel way better spiritually even if I face more attacks.

As an Armenian oriental orthodox, even though we're not in holy communion with the Russian Orthodox Church, I've always had a deep love for you guys. That said, the reason I'm orthodox is that it's the fullness of the truth, the ancient church Christ established through his apostles, who preached and established bishops, priests and deacons, anointed with apostolic teaching to preserve, protect, preach, teach, defend and canonise the holy tradition to this day.

It doesn't matter which sect we belong to. What matters is whether we follow Christ and have opened our hearts to Him so He can dwell in us. Have we surrendered our lives, our families, our money and our livelihood to Him to receive His holy blessing? Jesus Christ looks for cleanliness of heart and thought so He has a place in our lives, and He won't ask us if we're Orthodox, Catholic or Protestant. Those are earthly formalities, unnecessary if we believe He died for us, rose on the third day, and we await His second coming. Glory to the Lord in the highest, and on earth peace among people.

I'm Orthodox because I'm Georgian, and I'm Georgian today because Georgia became Christian in 319. It's part of our identity, and it's a miracle that Georgia survived at the crossroads of empires that no longer exist while little Georgia 🇬🇪 still stands. It's all because of our religion, which is deeply embedded in who we are.

I was born into orthodoxy, but something about the original way of showing the faith and going back to the roots has always appealed to me. Other churches feel like they try to do the same thing but in a modern way, and religion isn't really a modern principle.
