Relics of Bishop Gerasimos translated to Holy Cross Chapel

Hundreds of faithful and the full student body of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology gathered for the translation of the sacred relics of Venerable Father Gerasimos, Bishop of Abydos. The hierarch reposed on June 12, 1995, the Feast of the Holy Spirit, more than three decades ago. His relics were brought from their burial place into Holy Cross Chapel for public veneration for the first time.

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America presided, joined by Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh. The occasion marks a local recognition of the bishop's holiness and spiritual legacy as a teacher and spiritual father. The announcement clarifies that this recognition does not constitute a formal canonization or universal proclamation of sainthood, which remains the prerogative of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Photos were provided by Orthodox Observer.
